A Young Misses Wardrobe Suite, 1940

Last week, we did a pattern for little boys, today, little girls. What better way to start the new year, right? Not that I'm biased or anything . . .This pattern today is so charming and there is really more than one pattern too. Here the suite consists of a coat, a dress jumper, and a blouse to go underneath it all. I think if one is starting to kit out a young girl in 40s wear for a reenactment, this is an excellent pattern because you have all you want to start. You have a charming simple blouse that can be worn under a jumper or else a skirt. Instead of a traditional dress, a dress jumper that is cute and unique. For the cold, a coat. You have three basic pieces that can be worn dressed up or down and be mixed and matched with ease.

To start, the blouse. This simple blouse can be made from a nice cotton or rayon or any blouse weight material. The given pattern is for a long sleeves blouse set at the wrist with a cuff. There is a small collar in the pattern that ought to work for the blouse. This blouse pattern is incredible simple with only a front, back, and sleeve piece as the major components and then a collar if you want it. I would say make multiple blouses if planning on attending an event. You can never have too many nice simple blouses. On the pattern card, the blouse pattern is located in the upper right hand corner and the sleeve just below to the left.

The dress jumper is next and is worn over the blouse. This dress jumper is so simple and closes at the sides I think for best wearing. If you look at the skirt, it is pleated in the front and the back is smooth. The body of it overlaps at the front and can have no decorative buttons or it can. The back of the body is cut in one piece on the fold. For the dress jumper neckline, I would say a facing would look nice or else a bias binding. To really enhance a young misses wardrobe, you could just use the skirt pattern and set that into a waistband and viola! A nice simple skirt that can be worn with the blouse giving this wardrobe some added flexibility.

Last but not least, the coat. This coat is cut to be roomy and to be worn over the dress jumper and blouse. The collar for the coat I think is shared with the collar of the blouse. The coat sleeve is in two pieces. The coat pattern pieces have no labeling on them.
