Ivy Leaves Night Gown, An Original 40s Piece

This night gown in my collection is an original that I am certain is rayon (based on the little label) with cotton netting and hand worked detail. Although there is some damage to the center front, I don’t think it takes away from the overall beauty of this piece.

This light pink gown has trimming of white net at the top and at the hem where worked ivy leaves set this piece apart. The shoulder and top of the gown are cotton netting which is bound with narrow self- fabric bias binding. The waist area is hand faggoted with matching thread to sew together what I suspect are bias cut pieces. At the sides are narrow ties to snug it up. They tie in a bow in the back, not pictured.

Cutting on the bias gives a natural stretch and more wear ability. At the hem line are more ivy leaves and a wide piece of cotton netting along with a narrow bias binding.
